Job Overview
We are seeking an ambitious and collaborative Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Trainer to support our fast-growing operations within Saronic. The EHS Trainer will be responsible for the development, implementation, delivery, management, and evaluation of Environmental, Health, and Safety training programs to ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR Part 1910 (General Industry), OSHA 29 CFR Part 1915 (Shipyard Employment), applicable U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) regulations, and other federal, state, and local requirements while promoting a culture of learning, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence at the Saronic Shipyard in Franklin, LA.
The successful candidate will possess experience in industrial or maritime environments and demonstrate the ability to develop and deliver regulatory and competency-based training programs that support safe shipbuilding, ship repair, and waterfront operations.
Responsibilities
EHS Training
Oversee and coordinate Environmental, Health, and Safety training programs including instructor-led, computer-based, hands-on practical, self-paced, and monthly safety topic training.
Develop, implement, deliver, manage, and evaluate EHS training programs to ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR Part 1910, OSHA 29 CFR Part 1915, applicable USCG regulations, EPA requirements, and company policies.
Provide EHS training and education to employees at all organizational levels, including new hire orientation, annual refresher training, supervisor development, contractor orientation, and specialized training for high-risk activities.
Develop, review, and continuously improve shipyard-specific training curricula, lesson plans, presentations, practical evaluations, and competency assessments.
Coordinate and manage third-party vendors providing specialized EHS and maritime training.
Develop and maintain training matrices and qualification records to ensure employees meet regulatory and company-required certifications.

Regulatory Compliance
Interpret and apply OSHA 29 CFR Part 1910, 29 CFR Part 1915, applicable USCG regulations, and other maritime safety requirements.
Monitor changes to OSHA, USCG, EPA, and other applicable regulations and update training programs accordingly.
Support OSHA inspections, USCG inspections, customer audits, and internal compliance assessments.
Maintain training documentation and qualification records required for regulatory compliance.
Budget and Resource Management
Manage human, financial, and material resources to optimize program efficiency and maximize return on investment.
Develop individual and team objectives and key results (OKRs) and monitor progress toward completion.
Collaboration
Work with EHS team members, managers, and other departments to ensure training programs are aligned with company goals and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with supervisors to identify training needs and competency gaps.
Communication
Ensure organizational transparency through regular progress updates, compliance reports, safety bulletins, toolbox talks, lessons learned, and executive briefings.
Communicate regulatory changes and emerging safety trends throughout the organization.
Continuous Improvement
Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) methodologies.
Evaluate training effectiveness through audits, observations, employee feedback, incident investigations, competency assessments, and performance metrics.
Incorporate lessons learned into future training programs.
Data-Driven Performance
Develop processes for data collection, analytics, and reporting to improve training effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
Utilize Learning Management Systems (LMS) and EHS software to monitor training compliance and qualification status.
Education
Observe shipyard work practices to identify hazards, training deficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
Remain current on OSHA, USCG, EPA, and maritime industry regulations, standards, and best practices.
Performance Evaluation
Evaluate EHS team performance and training effectiveness utilizing KPIs, OKRs, compliance metrics, competency evaluations, and leading safety indicators.
Risk Management
Identify risks affecting EHS training programs and develop mitigation strategies that reduce operational and regulatory risk.
General EHS Support
Submit, track, and manage continuous improvement initiatives.
Support incident investigations, root cause analyses, corrective actions, emergency drills, internal audits, regulatory reporting, management system improvements, and overall EHS program development.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Public Health, Maritime Safety, or a related field.
Professional certification such as ASP, CSP, CIT, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent preferred.
Minimum 5+ years of experience in EHS, technical training, or safety program administration in shipbuilding, ship repair, marine manufacturing, heavy manufacturing, aerospace, or comparable industrial environments.
Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR Part 1910 (General Industry) and OSHA 29 CFR Part 1915 (Shipyard Employment).
Familiarity with applicable U.S. Coast Guard regulations related to vessel construction, shipyard operations, waterfront safety, and emergency preparedness.
Experience maintaining regulatory training records and employee qualification documentation.
